The Mo Ibrahim Foundation Postgraduate Scholarship application period is presently open to all interested African students. The scholarship will begin in the academic year 2023/2024. Candidates for the PhD and the Master are eligible for this program.

This Full Funding scholarship is an opportunity offered to qualified African Master and PhD student. Only African students are eligible for the scholarships, which give recipients the opportunity to enroll in a postgraduate program at one of the UK universities listed below: London Business School, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of Birmingham, or Chatham House. This program is hosted by Partner UK Institutions and sponsored by Mo Ibrahim Foundation.

The Mo Ibrahim Foundation is an African foundation founded by Sudanese-British businessman and philanthropist, Mo Ibrahim. Headquartered in London and Dakar, the Foundation was established in 2006 as a non-grant making organization. It works to strengthen sound governance and leadership in Africa through its key initiatives: Ibrahim Index of African Governance, Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership, Ibrahim Governance Weekend, Ibrahim Fellowships and Scholarships and the Now Generation Network. The Foundation is chaired by Mo Ibrahim. Other board members include Valerie Amos, Jin-Yong Cai, Nathalie Delapalme, Jendayi Frazer, Hadeel Ibrahim, Hosh Ibrahim, Abdoulie Janneh, Donald Kaberuka, Pascal Lamy, Graça Machel, Jay Naidoo, Mary Robinson, Ngaire Woods, and Zeinab Badawi.

The scholarship is funded by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation and focuses on supporting African PhD students fulfill their education dreams in one of the partner UK universities earlier listed. Funding amount and duration will depend on the program embarked upon by the candidate, and willingness of the sponsor to cover all costs.

  • Must have obtained relevant bachelor (for a masters program) and master’s degree (for a doctoral program) from a recognized institution of higher learning.
