Requirements and eligibility criteria for NORDIC African Scholarship Programme 2024:

  • Staff full-time employed by an African-based university or research center enrolled in a doctoral program in the African region without access to an international scholarship.
  • Postdoctoral researchers within 5 years or less of PhD completion.
  • Early career researchers based in Africa engaged in Africa-oriented research.
  • Research topic within Social Sciences and Humanities, focusing on contemporary Africa.
  • Research relevant to the core principles of the UN Agenda 2030, aligning with the five impact areas of the Institute.

  • Subsistence allowance of 400 SEK (approx. 40 USD) per day.
  • Installation grant of 2,500 SEK (approx. 250 USD).

Application Procedure for NORDIC African Scholarship Programme 2024 (How to apply);

To apply for the NORDIC African Scholarship Programme, candidates must submit their applications online and upload the following documents:

  • Up-to-date CV, including a list of publications (if available online, please include links).
  • Outline of the research project (5 pages): A detailed research proposal.
  • Work plan (1 page): Specific plan for the time spent at the Institute, outlining research objectives and expected results.
  • Reference: A signed letter of support from the applicant’s Head of Department or other senior scholar in the same field, confirming current workplace/affiliation and field of research.
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applicants with current or previous affiliations with the Nordic Africa Institute are ineligible for scholarships. Ensure that the application is submitted in English. If the Scholarship Programme for 2025 does not secure full funding, applicants will be notified promptly.
