Applications for the ETH4D Doctoral Mentorship Grant 2024 are currently open, providing an exciting opportunity for students from least-developed and low-income countries to pursue doctoral research in Switzerland for a year.
The program aims to offer comprehensive support to PhD students from low-income countries, enabling them to conduct research under the guidance of esteemed ETH professors and scholars. Through this comprehensive support package, the program aims to remove financial barriers and provide equitable access to research opportunities at ETH Zurich for students from low-income countries. Selected applicants receive fully funded opportunities, including:
- Economy roundtrip ticket (up to 2 kCHF) to and from Switzerland for the research stay.
- Coverage of visa fees.
- Travel allowance to attend academic conferences.
- Provision of research materials (e.g., lab equipment) with a maximum budget of 6k CHF.
- Coverage of health insurance fees.
- Support for local transportation.
- Accommodation arrangements.
- Living allowance for the duration of the research stay at ETH Zurich.

To apply for the ETH4D Doctoral Mentorship Grant, candidates must complete the online application form and provide specific documents. It’s crucial to note that only applications submitted by the ETH professorship hosting the doctoral candidate will be considered.
Required application documents include:
- Budget
- Project description (covering specified criteria)
- Motivation letter from the doctoral candidate (1 page)
- Most recent university transcripts
- Curriculum vitae (CV) of the doctoral candidate (up to 2 pages, including publications)
- Two academic reference letters
- Doctoral project proposal (if available)
- Support letter from the hosting ETH professor, detailing any financial or in-kind contributions. If the mentor is a senior scientist or postdoc, both the mentor and their professor must sign the support letter.
- Ensure all necessary documents are provided as per the guidelines to complete the application process successfully.
