The African Development Bank and the Government of Japan have created the Japan Africa Dream Scholarship (JADS) program to support high-achieving African students who wish to pursue postgraduate studies in development-related fields. Eligible students can receive a two-year scholarship to pursue a master’s degree. This opportunity is open to African citizens who are enrolled at an African university.
The Japan Africa Dream Scholarship (JADS) Program was established through a partnership between the Government of Japan and the African Development Bank (AfDB) to address the need for skilled professionals in Africa and strengthen ties between Japan and African countries. Launched in 2017, the program offers fully-funded scholarships for master’s and doctoral studies in priority fields such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics, agriculture, health, and environmental studies. It provides financial support for tuition, living expenses, airfare, and other allowances, enabling African students to pursue their academic goals in Japan. The program aims to empower African youth to contribute to their countries’ development upon their return by fostering academic excellence, leadership potential, and cultural exchange.
