International Monetary Fund (IMF) Economist Program 2025 for Postgraduates
Suitably qualified young economists with a passion for global economic issues are invited to apply for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Economist Program 2025. This is an exciting opportunity for postgraduates to gain first-hand experience with the IMF, hone their skills, and contribute to important economic work on a global scale.
The Economist Program (EP) is a triennial position composed of two stints each lasting 18 months. It is intended for early career PhD holders willing to build knowledge in economics while at the same time undertaking important duties of promoting global monetary cooperation, international trade, financial stability for employment, economic growth, and combating poverty around the globe.

Requirements and eligibility criteria;
- Recently completed or expected to complete a PhD within a year, in fields such as macroeconomics, finance, public finance, monetary economics, international economics, trade, poverty issues, political economy, econometrics, or related areas.
- Must be a national of an IMF member country.
- Under 34 years old at the time of joining the IMF program.
- Have an excellent academic record.
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and IT skills.
- Interest and ability to work in an international organization and contribute to economic policy.
- Proficient in written and spoken English.

Application Procedures (How to apply);
Interested applicants for the IMF Economist Program 2025 should apply online through the IMF Career Site. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed between October and January, with offers made in early February.
Selection Process:
The process consists of four main stages, which may occur at the same time:
Preliminary Interview: A 30-40 minute interview where you’ll present a high-level overview of your research paper and answer questions on economics and your interpersonal/communication skills.
Document Submission: After the preliminary interview, you may be asked to submit your most recent PhD transcript, three academic references, and a research paper or chapters from your dissertation.
In-Person Panel Interview: If successful, you’ll attend an in-person interview, take a 40-minute online psychometric test, and complete a 90-minute written exam.
Final Review and Selection: After the panel interviews, a committee of senior staff will review all candidates and make the final decision. Offers will then be sent to successful applicants.
