Fellowships for Foreign Applicants 2023 at University of Tokyo
Applications are invited from suitably qualified international candidates for the Fellowships for Foreign Applicants at University of Tokyo for the 2023/2024 session. This program is open to Doctoral candidates.
This Fellowship program is a partially funded opportunity that offers JPY 200,000/month to qualified international Doctoral candidates. This program is sponsored and hosted by GSFS/UTokyo. Todai Fellowship is financial support to international students who are enrolling in doctoral courses at The University of Tokyo. This fellowship must be applied at the same time as submitting an application of entrance examination for the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences (GSFS).
The University of Tokyo is a public research university in Bunkyō, Tokyo, Japan. Established in 1877, the university was the nation’s first Imperial University and is considered to be the most selective and prestigious university in Japan. It was also designated a “Top Type” university by the Japanese government’s Top Global University Project. UTokyo has 10 faculties, 15 graduate schools and enrolls about 30,000 students, about 4,200 of whom are international students. In particular, the number of privately funded international students, who account for more than 80%, has increased 1.75 times in the 10 years since 2010. Its five campuses are in Hongō, Komaba, Kashiwa, Shirokane and Nakano. As of 2021, The University of Tokyo‘s alumni, faculty members and researchers include 17 prime ministers, 18 Nobel Prize laureates, four Pritzker Prize laureates, five astronauts, and a Fields Medalist.

Requirement and Eligibility Criteria for Fellowships for Foreign Applicants 2023:
- Those who are applying for admission to a doctoral course of the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences.
- Those who hold a valid visa to stay in Japan as a “College Student” .
- Those who are not applying and/or planning to apply for fellowships or scholarships provided by private organizations.
