Wallonia-Brussels International Excellence Grants 2024
Suitably qualified International students wish to further their studies and career in Belgium are encouraged to submit their application for the Wallonia-Brussels International Excellence Grants 2024.
The Wallonia-Brussels International Excellence Grants program entirely covers PhD and postdoctoral research expenses as well as other mouth-watering benefits. Successful applicants will have the chance to take part in research or postdoctoral activities during the next academic year (2024/2025) in the same region.
These grants are categorized into two programs:
- Long-term scholarships: These are available for a minimum of one year and can be renewed once at the postdoctoral level.
- Short-term scholarships: These are for durations ranging from 1 to 3 months and are non-renewable, also at the postdoctoral level.
Even if you’re currently in an active term and haven’t yet received your doctorate certification, you can still apply. However, you must provide proof of achievement by specific deadlines:
For long-term scholarships:
- For stays between September and August: Proof of achievement must be submitted by June 1st.
For short-term scholarships:
- For stays between February and May: Proof of achievement must be submitted by December 1st.
- For stays between June and September: Proof of achievement must be submitted by April 1st.
- For stays between October and January: Proof of achievement must be submitted by July 1st.

Requirements and eligibility criteria Wallonia-Brussels International Excellence Grants 2024
- Researchers from any country can apply.
- Must hold a doctorate from a recognized foreign university.
- Applicants must intend to pursue a postdoctoral program in higher education institutions organized or subsidized by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
Benefits:
- Monthly stipend of 2,120 euros to cover living expenses, accommodation, educational materials, and in-country travel expenses.
- Wallonia-Brussels International (WBI) covers international travel costs (one round trip for the program’s duration).
- Healthcare insurance is provided for non-EU fellows.
- Repatriation assistance insurance is covered by WBI for long-term scholarships.

Application Procedures for Wallonia-Brussels International Excellence Grants 2024 (How to apply);
To apply for the Wallonia-Brussels International Excellence Grants 2024, follow these steps:
- Complete and sign the application form along with its appendices.
- Compile all documents into one single PDF file, not exceeding 10 MB in size.
- Email the PDF file to the program manager.
Ensure that the following documents are included:
- Application form
- Appendix 1: Declaration of additional funding (template provided on page 10)
- Appendix 2: Minimum 2 letters of reference from faculty members of an academic institution (templates provided on page 11). These must be sent directly to WBI.
- Appendix 3: Letter of invitation or agreement from the host university or professors supervising the research (no template provided). This is your responsibility to obtain.
- Appendix 4: Copies of diplomas (bachelor’s, 120 credits master’s, and doctorate).
Application Deadline:
- For long-term scholarships: March 1, 2024.
- For short-term scholarships: February and May 2024.
