Introducing Al for Science, a groundbreaking stream within the AlMS South Africa’s Master’s degree in Mathematical Science, developed in collaboration with DeepMind. Thanks to a generous donation from DeepMind, 40 scholars per year will be fully funded for the next four years. Requirements and eligibility criteria for DeepMind New Al for Science Program 2024 at AIMS South Africa:
- Must be a resident in Africa at the time of application
- Must be a citizen of any country in Africa
- Must have completed a four-year undergraduate degree or a three-year undergraduate degree with an honours year by August 2024 (or December 2024 for southern African applicants; see FAQ)
- Undergraduate degree could be in physics, mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, or any other discipline with a strong computational and mathematical component
- Completion of either a four-year undergraduate degree or a three-year undergraduate degree with an additional honours year is a requirement for enrolling as a Master’s degree student in South Africa.

- A motivation letter (approximately 500 words)
- Academic transcripts
- Written mathematics questions (available on the application site)
- Coding problem (available on the application site)
- The online application includes a series of short mathematics questions and a coding problem, which provide insight into your problem-solving approach. It’s recommended to start the application early, as it cannot be completed last minute. Shortlisted candidates will proceed to the second round, which consists of an online quiz covering mathematics and coding topics relevant to advanced AI studies.
