Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship 2023 at Prifysgol Bangor University
Prifysgol Bangor University is happy to accept qualified overseas applicants for the academic year 2023/2024 of the Commonwealth Master‘s Scholarship. Anyone interested in continuing their master‘s degree in the UK is eligible for this program.
This Fully-funded scholarship is an opportunity offered to qualified international masters candidates. This program is sponsored by Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), UK and hosted by Prifysgol Bangor University, UK. The Commonwealth Scholarship is to enable talented and motivated individuals to gain the knowledge and skills required for sustainable development, and are aimed at those who could not otherwise afford to study in the UK.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) is a department of the Government of the United Kingdom. Equivalent to other countries’ ministries of foreign affairs, it was created on 2 September 2020 through the merger of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) and the Department for International Development (DFID). The FCO was itself created in 1968 by the merger of the Foreign Office (FO) and the Commonwealth Office. The department in its various forms is responsible for representing and promoting British interests worldwide. The head of the FCDO is the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, commonly abbreviated to “Foreign Secretary”. This is regarded as one of the four most prestigious positions in the Cabinet – the Great Offices of State – alongside those of Prime Minister, Chancellor of the Exchequer and Home Secretary. James Cleverly was appointed Foreign Secretary on 6 September 2022.

Requirement and Eligibility Criteria for Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship 2023:
- Applicants must be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person.
- Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country.
- Be available to start your academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September 2024.
- By September 2024, hold a first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) honors standard, or a second-class degree (2:2) and a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree). The CSC would not normally fund a second UK Master’s degree. If you are applying for a second UK Master’s degree, you will need to provide justification as to why you wish to undertake this study.
- Be unable to afford to study in the UK without this scholarship.
- Have provided all supporting documentation in the required format.
- Candidates must check with the nominating agency for their specific advice and rules for applying, and their own eligibility criteria.
Scholarship Benefits
Successful applicants for Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship, will receive the following benefits:
- Approved tuition fees
- Approved airfare from your home country to the UK and return at the end of your award (the CSC will not reimburse the cost of fares for dependants, nor the cost of journeys made before your award is confirmed)
- Stipend (living allowance) at the rate of £1,347 per month
- Warm clothing allowance, where applicable
- Thesis grant towards the cost of preparing a thesis or dissertation, where applicable
- Study travel grant towards the cost of study-related travel within the UK or overseas

Applications must be made using the CSC’s online application system Candidates must apply to one of the following nominating bodies in the first instance – the CSC does not accept direct applications for these scholarships:
- National nominating agencies – this is the main route of applications
- Selected non-governmental organizations and charitable bodies
