Requirements and eligibility criteria;

British Citizens:

  • Eligible to apply, including:
  • British Overseas Territory Citizens
  • British Overseas Citizens
  • British Subjects
  • British Nationals (Overseas)
  • British Protected Persons

Irish Citizens:

  • Eligible for the regular Army.
  • For the Army Reserve, applicants must already reside in the UK.

Refugees/Asylum Seekers:

  • Not eligible to join the British Army.

Commonwealth Citizens:

  • Eligible and valued members of the British Army.

Applicants must apply for one of the following roles to be considered:

  • Musician
  • Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers
  • Royal Engineers Technician and Tradesman
  • Paratrooper

How to Calculate ALIS Score:

  • 8 points: GCSE A*/9, BTEC (level 2) Distinction*
  • 7.5 points: GCSE Low A* – High A/8
  • 7 points: GCSE A/7, NAT (level 5) A, BTEC (level 2) Distinction
  • 6 points: GCSE B/6, NAT (level 5) B, BTEC (level 2) Merit
  • 5 points: GCSE C/4&5, NAT (level 5) C, BTEC (level 2) Pass
  • 4 points: GCSE D/3, NAT (level 5) D, NAT (level 4)

Soldier-to-Officer Requirements:

  • Requires 5 GCSE passes or equivalent, including:
  • English Language
  • Mathematics at Grade C/4 or higher
  • Nationally recognized equivalent qualifications
  • Candidates not meeting this requirement will undergo an assessment at the Army School of Education, Worthy Down, before being considered for the selection process.
