LAF-Thomson Media Environmental Journalism Training 2024 Program
Journalists from Rwanda are advised to rush and submit their names for the 2024 LAF-Thomson Media Environmental Journalism Training Program. LAF in conjunction with Thomson Media and funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany seeks to equip Rwandan journalists with the required skills to enable them to effectively report on very sensitive environmental issues like environmental crimes, the green economy, climate change, and sustainable adaptation.
It is planned as a wonderful opportunity to raise the level of reporting, get acquainted with the legal aspects, and receive consulting legal help during the work of a journalist. Requirements and eligibility criteria;
- Journalists working in print, online, radio, or television can apply.
- Must be based in Rwanda and work for either local or international media.
- Fluency in English is required.
- Both freelancers and staff journalists are eligible.
- Journalists employed by a news organization need consent from their editor to participate.
- Freelancers must provide proof that a media outlet will publish their work.
- A letter of consent from the editor is required, signed, and on official letterhead.
- Freelancers also need a recommendation letter from their editor.

Application Procedures (How to apply);
Interested applicants should start by enrolling in the online courses. To be eligible for workshops and potential production support, you must complete at least two of the three available courses. Those who finish all three will be given priority.
After completing at least two courses, you can submit your application by providing the following documents:
- A 250-word article outlining the environmental or climate issue you wish to explore during the program.
- A personal statement detailing why you want to join the program, along with any relevant professional or academic experiences, or a brief CV.
- A letter of recommendation from your editor, including a commitment to publish your story after the training.
- A copy of your valid press card.
