Applications from Africans with the requisite qualifications who are keen to study are being accepted for the APN Collaborative Working Group Research Fellowship 2024/2025 session. Candidates for the PhD and master‘s degrees are eligible to apply to this program.

This fellowship program is an opportunity that offers $60,000 for a period of eighteen months to qualified African PhD and Masters students. This program is sponsored by African Peacebuilding Network (APN) and hosted by Social Science Research Council (SSRC). The Collaborative Working Group Research Fellowship is an initiative and key complement to the field-based and networking components of the APN’s programming. The goal of these projects is to collaborate on research projects that will help shape the continent’s conflict and peacebuilding policies and practices.

The Social Science Research Council (SSRC) is a US-based, independent, international nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing research in the social sciences and related disciplines. Established in Manhattan in 1923, it maintains a headquarters in Brooklyn Heights with a staff of approximately 70, and small regional offices in other parts of the world. The SSRC offers several fellowships to researchers in the social sciences and related disciplines, including for international fieldwork. The SSRC came into being in 1923 as a result of the initiative of the American Political Science Association’s committee on research, headed by the association’s president, Charles E. Merriam (1874–1953), who was chair of the political science department at the University of Chicago and an early champion of behaviorally-oriented social science. Representatives of the American Economic Association, the American Sociological Society, and the American Statistical Association joined with Merriam and his associates in forming the world’s first coordinating body of the social sciences.
