This Tuition award scholarship is an opportunity that offers 100% of tuition costs to qualified international Undergraduate students. For the first year of enrollment, Berea College is the only institution in the United States to offer full funding to all enrolled international students. The cost of tuition, lodging, board, and fees is offset by the combination of financial aid and scholarships.

Berea College is a private liberal arts work college in Berea, Kentucky. Founded in 1855, Berea College was the first college in the Southern United States to be coeducational and racially integrated. The college provides a work-study grant that covers the remaining tuition fees after subtracting the total sum a student received from Pell Grant, other grants, and scholarships. Berea’s primary service region is southern Appalachia but students come from more than 40 states in the United States and 70 other countries. Approximately one in three students identify as people of color. Berea offers bachelor’s degrees in 33 majors. It incorporates a mandatory work-study program that requires students to engage in a minimum of 10 hours per week of work for the college.

Requirement and Eligibility Criteria for Berea College Scholarships for International Students 2023:

Applicants to Berea College must be students who have strong academic potential and financial need. Most of Berea College students score between 20 and 30 on the ACT (or SAT equivalent) and have a cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.0 in a strong college prep curriculum. Students may take either the ACT or SAT.
Other factors such as community service, leadership qualities, and levels of motivation will also be taken into consideration.

English Language Requirement: Applicants are required to provide evidence of meeting the Berea College’s minimum English language proficiency requirements.

Application Procedures for the 2023/2024 Berea College Scholarships for International Students (how to apply):

By November 1, students who are unable to mail in their application packets should email finaid@berea.edu to request an alternative means of submission. Prior to November 1, no petitions for exceptions to the mailing obligation will be accepted.

Document Requirements:

All of the following items are in the packet above, and must be mailed together to the Office of Admissions:

International Application for Admission and Scholarship form.
International Personal Essay and Essay Cover Sheet.
Copy of official secondary school records. DO NOT SEND ORIGINALS.
Personal Statement of Financial Circumstances.
International Financial Questionnaire (IFQ).
International Financial Recommendation Form.
Two (2) Admission Recommendation forms, at least one of which should be written by a current or former teacher.
Copy of official scores from at least one of the following exams: TOEFL, IELTS, ACT or SAT. You should register and take the test early in order include a copy of your scores in your packet and to meet the deadline.
